The Natural History Museum in Los Angeles (yes, there is one) is currently hosting an amazing exhibit all about spiders. This Spider Pavillion is a place where you can roam free among some of the creepiest crawlies you've ever imagined, short of that cheesy scene in Temple of Doom. Christina and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, as did the creepy crawly kids packing the place. It was really cool to see children unafraid of being face-to-face with spiders that aren't behind glass.
The event works like one of those butterfly/bird exhibits that animal theme parks and zoos often have, where you are fan-blown in a plastic airlock before entering the uncaged animal area. Spiders, being quite docile, are the perfect subjects for this because they aren't flying around and they certainly don't seem to be in much of a hurry to leave (or do anything except show off their superpowers of silk weaving). The event runs until November 7th and is well worth seeing.
